Edmonton – The Edmonton Screen Industries Office (ESIO) is awarding 33 grants through two program streams to organizations and entrepreneurs based in the Edmonton Metro region.

The two programs, the Industry Support Program and the Early Stage Project Grants program, are part of ESIO’s strategy to support local screen media enterprises. The screen media industries include traditional film and video and interactive digital media, such as video games and virtual reality.

These ESIO programs were officially launched in the Spring of 2020, and this is the organization’s inaugural group of grants awarded.

“The screen industries are a critical component of diversifying our economy. The ESIO was formed in 2017 to strategically focus Edmonton’s resources in this important area,” said Josh Miller, ESIO CEO. “We couldn’t have planned then that our first grants would coincide with a pandemic recovery, but it is certainly nice to be able to provide this support just when many in the screen industries are beginning to restart operations. We are thrilled to be able to support so many recipients and of course are excited to see what will be created.”

Between the two programs, a total of over $75,000 is being awarded, with micro grants of up to $1,000 for the Early Stage Project Grant program as well as grants ranging from $500 to $8,500 for the Industry Support Program. This funding may help recipients unlock additional funding, while also supporting local ownership of intellectual property.
