Edmonton Screen offers support to attract guest productions to the Edmonton region by assisting to find screen-friendly locations for their projects. By actively supporting film scouting, Edmonton Screen can position the region as an attractive destination for filmmakers, fostering a thriving film industry and reaping the associated benefits. The Location Scouting Support Program offers in-person scouting or photo packages.


Program Highlights

  • The program will provide a local scout or a photo package to assist with scouting needs
  • Out-of-town tour attendees may also receive a reimbursement of expenses while in the region

Eligibility

Screen media companies that are interested in locating their production to the Edmonton region.

Applicants must be in good standing with the ESIO and the City of Edmonton.

  • Projects must be considering using locations around the Edmonton region.
  • Projects that contain propaganda; elements of serious or gratuitous sexual violence or exploitation; obscene, indecent or pornographic content within the meaning of the Criminal Code; or elements which are libelous or in any other way unlawful, are ineligible.
  • Accommodations
  • Travel within the Edmonton region
  • Per diems: $60 day/attendee
  • GST will not be reimbursed if the applicant has a GST number

Application Information

Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the desired scouting dates. All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    • Scouting Days
    • Timeframe
    • Tour attendees

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following factors to determine eligibility:

  • Potential economic impact for the Edmonton region
  • Budget level of project
  • Applicant’s track record

Other criteria may also be considered.

Process

  • All applications will first be reviewed for eligibility.
  • Eligible applications will then be assessed based on the criteria above.
  • Funding decisions will be made based on the available funding.

Based on a variety of factors, including the number of high-quality applications, the ESIO may provide partial funding.

  • Applications Open: February 2025
  • Applications Close: when available funding has been exhausted
  • Notification within:  21 days
  • Reporting due within: 30 days of scouting activities

Successful applicants must submit expense receipts within 30 days of scouting activities.

Applicants with overdue final reporting for this program will not be eligible for future ESIO funding until the reporting is submitted.
